Creating an Odyssey Plan is hard work and takes time. It is crucial for you to realistically think about your life and what you want to do with it. The plan consists of 3 different lives that you would want to live or are living. Life one is what you are doing right now and what you have in mind for what you want to do. Life two is the thing you would do if life one were to suddenly disappear. Life three is the life you would live if money or image didn't matter. Having an Odyssey Plan helps you map out your future, shows different options or routes you could take, and gives an alternative plan if all else fails. When thinking about my career choices, I have to ask myself if my job would benefit myself (make me happy) and also impact other people's lives as well. Also, is the plan coherent with your work view/ life view. For my plan, I have two routes I could take. I am transferring to UGA and the Fall and plan on changing my major to Human Development and Family Science in order to go to grad school for child life. The other route I have been thinking a lot about is nutrition/ dietetics. These are not psychology related majors, so I still have to give it more consideration. By taking this careers class, I have begun to realize that psychology might not be the path I want to take, but I'm still not completely sure. I would love to be a child life specialist because I have a passion for kids but I also have a passion for health and fitness because I grew up focusing my life around that. It is always a good idea to have some type of plan, even if it's not what you end up doing. Staying organized and figuring out your likes/dislikes is necessary for a successful future, not only in your career but also life in general. Amy Grice discusses the importance of strategic planning and how it CAN make a difference in your future. She talks about how strategic planning takes time and energy, but it is beneficial. Strategic planning is a way of envisioning what you want with your life, job, etc. and then translating that vision into specific steps you need to take in order to accomplish your goals.
